When the brain is in a defensive state, its ability to process and retain information diminishes.
But when we are curious, we open the door to learning and understanding.
This is why anger, hate, and shouting—especially on the internet—rarely change minds. Instead, we must gather and share stories that spark empathy and curiosity. We want those who see us as "the enemy" to experience a moment of humanity, to think, "I'm not okay with that" or "I want to learn more." But that can’t happen if they’re already on the defensive.
I'm Elizabeth, and I’ve been a student of leadership my whole life. I know true leadership doesn’t look like division or violence—it looks like love, compassion, and care for all people. I have the ability to speak from that place, but I need the stories to tell. Stories from those who can't safely use their own voice or don’t have the platform to be heard.
I invite stories from teachers, immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals—anyone whose voice has been dismissed or silenced. Maybe you can’t speak out for fear of consequences, but your story still deserves to be heard. Your story has the power to create change, and I will share it with deep care and respect.
And if you see the world differently, I welcome your story, too. I say this with love: many of us are genuinely curious—how do you sleep at night? My heart is open, and I will listen. Help us understand what we haven’t been able to see.
