What does it actually look like when someone walks into a room already cracked open and comes out the other side having named something they didn’t even know they were carrying? That’s what this episode is, and it’s one of the most unexpectedly moving things to land in the Messy Success Podcast feed in a while.

Jenny Tack is the owner of Hex and Hair, a spiritual hair salon in Hampton Roads, Virginia, and the host of the Conversations at the Crossroads podcast. She attended Elevate and Inspire in April after someone believed in her enough to gift her a seat at the event. She showed up the same morning her truck ran out of gas on the interstate. She walked in late, mid-sentence, and sat down just in time for everything to shift. This episode is her story, shared here with her permission, directly from her own podcast in her own words.

Finding your why in business sounds like a workshop exercise until it stops you cold. For Jenny, it happened during a fill-in-the-blank: I am a blank, and what I’m really passionate about is blank. The second blank came fast and clear. The first one, the identity blank, was where she got stuck. She wrote “hairstylist” and felt it the way you feel a coat that no longer fits right. Then she wrote “witch.” Still not the whole picture. By the end of the weekend she hadn’t filled it in completely, but she knew something had shifted, and she knew it wasn’t something she could un-know.

There’s a moment she describes from inside the event room that is hard to do justice to in a description. A woman was being coached live on stage and said something that made it clear she was describing her practical dream, not her dreamy dream. Jenny says you could feel it move through the whole room, a collective exhale, a shared recognition. That sound of everyone hearing themselves in someone else without meaning to. It’s the kind of moment that only happens in rooms where people have shown up honestly, and it’s a big part of why Elizabeth builds Elevate and Inspire the way she does.

By the time Jenny sat down to lunch with Daryl, one of Elizabeth’s coaches, she was ready. She heard his story, recognized something in it, and something clicked inside her about her own. She came home with a business identity shift she’s still unpacking, a clarity about what she’s building next, and a line she finally let herself say out loud: she doesn’t dream of being a hairstylist anymore. She’s quick to explain what that means and what it doesn’t, and the nuance in how she holds it is worth hearing directly. This is an episode worth sitting with.
