Your Competitive Advantage in Business Isn’t a Strategy, It’s You
Everyone is talking about the Yap Challenge right now, and the entrepreneur behind it, Jesse Jean, has proven that digital products and services are far from dead. But in this episode, Elizabeth explains why the real story isn’t the trend itself, it’s what the trend reveals about competitive advantage in business. You don’t need a fancy funnel or a complicated strategy to stand out. You just need to be willing to do the thing most people are too afraid to do, which right now is showing up authentically on camera.
Elizabeth pulls from a coaching call inside her signature program, where a room of twelve business owners became an accidental case study. Only three of them were regularly creating this kind of authentic content marketing, whether through talking head videos, podcasting, or going live. The rest were either brand new to it and terrified, or hadn’t started at all. That gap, she argues, is exactly where the opportunity lives. If the majority of people in your industry are too scared to show up this way, doing it anyway becomes your edge.
A big part of this episode is about criticism, and how little power it actually deserves. Elizabeth shares the honest reality of going live on TikTok, where she can get a cruel comment and a kind one back to back within the same minute, and explains the mental shift that lets both hold equal weight, which is none, because they are both just someone else’s opinion. She connects this to what she calls ten out of ten certainty, the conviction that makes people trust you and want to buy from you, and how that certainty is built through reps, not talent.
She also gets honest about how the social landscape has changed. Public engagement like comments, tags, and DMs has quieted down significantly compared to years ago, even as her own podcast downloads have grown five times over. Her takeaway is simple: don’t measure your success by how loud people are on social media. Trust the numbers, and keep giving people a real experience of who you are.
If you’ve been holding back from showing up because it feels too exposing, this episode is the encouragement to put in the reps anyway. Take a listen and find your own competitive advantage in business.
